Teaching Circles

Our department's core composition committee has just voted to approve our pilot teaching circles to begin this fall. In the synchronicity that defines my life, I can see the active learning strategies as not only a topic to be discussed, but also as a way to discuss the topics. Ideally, as one of the Circle Leaders, I'd like to schedule the sessions in one of our building's two active learning classrooms, but they are becoming more sought after and so that may be difficult. Nevertheless, the idea of sending out material in advance of a circle meeting that will become the subject of discussion and questions in the meeting, even in less than ideal surroundings, sounds very productive to me. If we can transfer our early success with undergraduate active learning environments to our new Teaching Circles, then I'd feel even more certain of its sustained success.
