Engaging Students in Large Lectures
Last March 24, several of us who apply active learning strategies in our larger lecture classes participated in a panel discussion, part of a series on professional development sponsored by Auburn University's Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning. As with others before it, ours was recorded and uploaded to the Biggio Center's Youtube site. Our session ran a bit over an hour and so Roland DeWitt, the Center's videographer, divided it into ten smaller segments for easier installment viewing. I've embedded the installments below in order:
Part I: Introductions
Part II: What Made You Change Your Class?
Part III: How to Adjust to Active Learning
Part IV: Active Learning in Large Classes
Part V: Engaging Students
Part VI: General Discussion
Part VII: Organization of Class
Part VIII: Unexpected Surprises
Part IX: Working Together in Groups
Part X: Final Comments and Advice
